Has anyone done time and motion studies on any ant colonies. in my observations many of the things that happen in an ant colony are either non-productive (two ants pulling on opposite ends of the same seed) or even counter productive. One ant digs a tunnel while another fills it.

      I am interested in starting work on my Doctorate (Sociology - working with volunteers) and am interested in prefacing my work with a prologue about the "real" efficiency of ants.

Solomon (In Proverbs) mentions the industry of ants twice, and they do accomplish great things, but if they were truely focused and organized they could take us over.

If you can direct me to any such research I would appreciate it.
