Fisher's thoughts on the subject
Concerning
the proposed name change. I support a name change but feel that
"Pirate ants" fails to conjure up what is happening,
that ants are being taken hostage. Pirates take booty, and pirates
ants would be a good term for ants that stole food or nests.
Kidnap and hostage are better terms.
Kidnapping,
a word derived from kid = 'child' and nap (nab) = 'snatch',
recorded since 1673, was originally used as a term for the practice
of stealing children for use as servants or laborers in the
American
colonies. [1]
