My
primary responsibility with the EEL Program is to implement a prescribed
fire program within our network of Sanctuaries. Much of the Program's
land acquisition process is centered around conserving the unique
Florida Scrub-jay and its associated threatened upland/wetland mix
of ecosystems. Our knowledge of the arthropod diversity within our
Sanctuaries is poor, so I invite all interested invertebrate biologists
and researchers to explore our EEL Sanctuaries! My own exposure
to ants began when I was two years old, and continues today with
my interest in ant diversity studies and survey techniques. I also
have the great pleasure of assisting Mark Deyrup with his much-anticipated
Ants of the Southeast volume by providing him with ant locality
records as I travel throughout Florida. I graduated from and am
still affiliated with the University of Central Florida, and am
always interested in exchanging ants in order to bolster the ant
specimen section within the University of Central Florida Collection
(UCFC) of arthropods.
