Ants of Costa Rica on the Web
Project ALAS

I am well on the way to putting together a manuscript on the Crematogaster of Costa Rica. I will be dealing with 31 taxa that are known from Costa Rica, but the paper will have implications for the wider Neotropics. There will be a large amount of synonymy, because a relatively small number of species/species complexes have very wide distributions, and I will be taking a "synonym until proven otherwise" approach. In addition there will be a number of new species, most of which are known only from Costa Rica at this point. The key should be able to help identify material of the common widespread species anywhere in the Neotropics, with the caveat that local undescribed species should be expected in areas that have not been thoroughly surveyed, especially if there are mountains.
